Communal Penance Services allow individual confession within the context of community because reconciliation is both personal and communal. Sin affects not just the individual, but the whole Church, and healing happens within the community too. At its heart, a communal penance service is about remembering that God’s mercy is bigger than our individual failures, and that conversion is a shared journey. It’s the Church saying, you don’t have to come back to God alone.
