Parish Library Speaker 2017

The Parish Library Committee is sponsoring a presentation on local Jewish history at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 7, in the St. Matthew/Mark room.  Local authors Thomas Welsh, Joshua
Foster, and Gordon Morgan, co-authors of  A History of Jewish Youngstown and the Steel Valley, will share highlights of their recently published book, which chronicles the contributions Jews have made to the Mahoning Valley since the first Jewish resident arrived in 1837.  Jewish ties to the Catholic community in Youngstown will also be presented.

Tom visited St. Charles several years ago and gave an interesting talk about his book, Closing Chapters: Urban Change, Religious Reform and the Decline of Youngstown’s Catholic Elementary Schools to a large audience.  A copy of A History of Jewish Youngstown and the Steel Valley, may be checked out at the parish library.  Autographed copies of the book will be available after the presentation for $22.00, or you may purchase your own copy for autographing.
