A.C.T.I.O.N. / St. Charles

A.C.T.I.O.N. in partnership with St. Charles Borromeo Parish, is a faith-based organization made up of congregations and community organizations working together to improve life in our region.  Discussions will center on countywide issues and concerns and how St. Charles Borromeo can help in finding solutions.  A.C.T.I.O.N is an affiliate of Gamaliel Foundation along with over 45 other faith-based community organizations nationwide. 

A.C.T.I.O.N./St. Charles meets every first Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. in the St. Luke Room from September through May.

Altar Linen Ministry

This ministry is for anyone who wishes to help maintain the dignity of our worship space by cleaning the altar linens (purificators and altar cloths), which need to be taken home and laundered on a regular basis.  This is a perfect ministry for those who cannot attend regular meetings, but wish to offer their service for the benefit of the Liturgy.

Athletic Club

The Athletic Club of St. Charles coordinates and supports sports activities, informal and organized, for all children of the parish grades 1 – 8, parochial and public school.  Volunteers

Bereavement Ministry

The Bereavement Ministry provides a connection between the parish of St. Charles and the bereaved, offering assistance and ongoing support for one year to the family who has experienced a loss.

Building Committee

Composed of knowledgeable contractors and trades people, the Building Committee inspects all facets of the buildings approximately three or four times per year, then makes recommendations using the skills and talents they bring to the committee.

St. Charles Garden Club

This group’s mission is to stimulate interest and promote education in knowing, growing, and sharing with an emphasis on a variety of gardening and flower arranging programs and to render service to the church community and the beautification of the church and its betterment.

The Garden Club meets every first Thursday of the month at 6:30 p.m. in the St. Matthew Room from September through June. There is no meeting in January.

Cleaning Ministry

Our Cleaning Ministry is comprised of dedicated volunteers who are committed to being good stewards of our facilities as they make sure our church is ready for the next activity by vacuuming, scrubbing, washing, dusting, etc. Supplies and equipment are provided to clean each area in an effort to keep our church looking its best. This is a flexible time commitment.

Knights of Columbus

The Knights of Columbus is a national, Catholic, fraternal, organization which recognizes duty to God, to family, to neighbor, and to charity.

Fr. Daniel Venglarik council meets on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month at 7:00 p.m. in the St. Charles Room from September through June.  During the months of July and August, the council only meets on the second Tuesday of the month at 7:00 p.m. in the St. Charles Room.

Coat Drive

Community Meal

This bi-monthly offering of hospitality, a meal free-of-charge to all brings us together as a community to nourish us body, mind, and spirit.  We open our doors to our parish and extended community, and all are welcome.  This ministry needs cooks, bakers, greeters, and servers.

Cub Scouts

The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Scout Law.  Cub scouting is designed to have boys from first to fifth grade doing activities to promote their awareness of citizenship, develop their sense of personal fitness, and reinforce their parent’s code of character development.

St. Charles Men’s Club

The St. Charles Men’s Club is a service and social organization open to all male parish members over age 18 or spouses of parish members. Activities serve to benefit St. Charles Parish. Each year, we cook breakfast for the Anniversary Brunch, the Celebrate Retreat weekend, and the high school graduates’ breakfast. We sponsor the Ken Wilson Scholarship, which awards two $1,000.00 scholarships to high school seniors from the St. Charles parish for their college expenses.  Scholarship money is raised through our Fr. Haidet Golf Outing, which is held in July.  Our group hosts coffee and donuts on a regular basis and sponsors social activities to raise funds for projects in the parish.

Club meetings are on the second Sunday of the month, August through June and rotate between evenings, casual breakfast or prior to our cooking events.

Graceful Hands

This ministry combines skillful hands with grace-filled hearts to create prayer shawls for those among us who are going through difficult times.  All ages and all levels of experience (knit and crochet) are welcome. 

Graceful Hands meets every third Saturday of the month at 9:30 a.m. in the St. Luke Room from September through May.

Homebound Ministers

Homebound Ministers act on behalf of the priest to minister to those who are ill or confined in their homes by serving the Eucharist, listening, praying, and encouraging those to whom they are assigned.  Lisa Granchie at the parish office, 330-758-2325, schedules and arranges training for this most important ministry.

Hospital Visitation Ministry

Hospital Ministers complete a four-hour training program presented by an accredited Pastoral Minister.  They visit members of St. Charles Parish while they are confined to a hospital.

Martha’s Cupboard

Martha’s Cupboard of St. Charles Parish distributes food, personal care items, and paper products to those in need within and beyond the boundaries of the parish.  In the Gathering Space of the Church, at the feet of the statue of St. Charles Borromeo, burgundy bags are available to fill, return, and reuse to collect items for the Cupboard.

Martha's Cupboard Open Pantry distribution is every third Wednesday of the month from 1:00 - 2:30 p.m.

Nursing Home Extraordinary Minister of Eucharist

The Nursing Home Extraordinary Ministers of Eucharist assist at communion services, led by a Lay Leader of Prayer, or at a Mass, celebrated by the Parochial Vicar, and may also assist at a communal celebration of the Anointing of the Sick at the facility.  Being a Eucharistic Minister is preferred, but is not necessary.

Nursing Home Visitors

Nursing Home Visitors are parishioners who visit members of the parish confined to nursing homes to offer kindness and friendship on a one-on-one basis.  A short training session is required and a gift is given to present to the patient on the initial visit.  Times and frequency for visitation are at the discretion of the volunteer.

Our Lady's Rosary Makers

The members of this ministry are committed to making mission rosaries to be used within our Parish and throughout the world. All ages welcome; once the technique is learned, rosaries can be made at home at your convenience.

Parish Mailing

This ministry does not involve a big commitment.  Volunteers are asked to periodically come to the parish office to help with bulk mailings (Stewardship Intention Forms, Christmas cards, etc.).

Planet Green Recycle

This is a new ministry which will focus primarily on Stewardship of the Earth. Help us put forth recycling projects at St. Charles Parish, so that we may become an example of an "Eco-Friendly Parish." Open to 7th grade and older.

Sister Parish Ministry

The Sister Parish Ministry is dedicated to establishing and deepening relationships between the parishioners of Immaculada Conception Parish in Pontonico, El Salvador and St. Charles Borromeo Parish.

Soles4Souls

Parish Life Commission sponsors a gently used and/or new shoe drive in March for the poorer nations overseas. We also take monetary donations to help pay for the shipping cost.

Soup Kitchen Ministry

The Soup Kitchen Ministry provides an opportunity to serve the poor by making three meals a month in the St. Charles kitchen, September through May, for the St. Vincent de Paul Soup Kitchen.  Volunteers can commit to the team that best fits their schedule, but consistency is appreciated.

The Soup Kitchen meets the first three Mondays of each month in season and consists of three teams. Volunteers can commit to a team that best fits their schedule, but consistency is appreciated.

Wedding Facilitators

Wedding Facilitators are volunteers who are assigned to a bride and groom, answering questions or concerns as they pertain to the wedding ceremony.  They conduct the rehearsal and are present at the wedding to provide any assistance needed.

This committee greets and registers persons wishing to become St. Charles parishioners on the fourth Sunday of each month after all Masses.  Packets of information and a small gift are extended at this time.
