Elizabeth Ministry
Elizabeth Ministry is an international movement designed to support women and their families during the joys, challenges and sorrows of the childbearing years. The Elizabeth Ministry mission is to cherish children, encourage families and build community. We offer peer support, mentoring, educational materials, spiritual nourishment and inspirational resources. Elizabeth Ministry chapters exist across the United States as well as in Canada, Europe and Third World countries.
Women volunteers become Elizabeth Ministers in the areas they have experienced. For example, a woman who has twins would visit and mentor a woman who is pregnant with twins. Continued support is given throughout the pregnancy and after the birth. This support comes in the form of visits, phone calls, cards, prayers, resources and other assistance. The areas of Elizabeth Ministry include, but are not limited to, pregnancy, birth, miscarriage, infant or child death, crisis or special needs, adoption, fertility and infertility. Support is available for mothers, fathers, siblings and grandparents.
The Elizabeth Ministry also includes the Rosebud Program. Individuals can place a colored rose with an attached prayer card in the vase located on a table in the rear of the church. These cards can be filled out completely or with the name only of couples requesting special intentions related to childbearing concerns.
If you would like to be part of this ministry or are in need of this ministry, please contact Kathy Dwinnells @ 330-757-7522.

Girl Scouts
Girl Scouts is an organization which promotes personal growth, exploration, self-direction, stewardship, leadership and life skills for girls in grades K -12. Activities are conducted in groups organized by age or grade level. Troops act independently and jointly with other troops in Boardman, Poland, and Struthers (known as the Service Unit). Part of the Girl Scout’s rich tradition is to incorporate service projects into their activities throughout the year. In recent years, St. Charles’ troops have lent support to many charitable causes including Hospice of the Valley, Beatitude House, Operation Christmas Child, Second Harvest Food Bank, the Rescue Mission of Mahoning Valley, Operation School House, and Akron’s Children’s Hospital. They also volunteer their time at school and church functions. If you are interested in joining or becoming an adult volunteer, please contact Patty Schwendeman
@ 330-965-1292.
Graceful Knitters
This ministry combines skillful hands with grace-filled hearts to create prayer shawls for those among us who are going through difficult times. A lovingly created warm shawl draped across the shoulders says, "You are not alone." All ages and levels of experience (Knit or crochet) are welcome as we learn and help each other in this endeavor. Please contact, Anne Kravitz @ 330-758-6262 or Alexis Santangelo @ 330-702-1712.

The Giving Tree provides an opportunity to share riches with those less fortunate. Conducted during Advent, the St. Vincent de Paul Society works to provide holiday meals and gifts to our community and the surrounding area. From a “tree” in the Gathering Space of the church, hanging envelopes can be taken and filled with a monetary donation. Envelopes may be returned in the collection basket or mailed to the parish office.

Marriage Encounter
Marriage Encounter is designed to give married couples the opportunity to examine their lives together…a time to share their feelings, their hopes, disappointments, joys and frustrations…and to do so openly and honestly in a face-to-face, heart-to-heart encounter with the one person they have chosen to live with for the rest of their life. The emphasis of Marriage Encounter is on communication between husband and wife, who spend a weekend together away from the distractions and tensions of everyday life. It’s not a retreat, nor a marriage clinic, nor group sensitivity. It is a unique approach aimed at revitalizing Christian marriage. For more information including dates and place, please contact the Pavalko’s, Allan and Maria, @ 330-726-3992.
Martha’s Cupboard
Martha’s Cupboard of St. Charles Parish distributes food, personal care items, paper products to those in need within and beyond the boundaries of the parish. Items are collected in baskets and placed at the feet of the statue of St. Charles Borromeo located in the Gathering Space of the church.
The generosity of the parishioners, brides and grooms, and donations at special events supply the needed items for an open pantry each month. Martha’s Cupboard also includes a walker bag and blanket ministry. Lap blankets of 4-ply washable yarn, either knit or crocheted, are collected to be distributed to nursing homes, retirement centers or others requesting this kind of item. Kathy Kocjancic coordinates the volunteers for this most worthwhile ministry. Please call her for further information @ 330-758-2325.

Nursing Home Visitors
Ministers of Care are parishioners who visit members of the parish who are confined to nursing homes to offer kindness and friendship on a one-on-one basis. A short training session is required and a gift is given to present to the patient on the initial visit. Times and frequency for visitation are at the discretion of the volunteer. This is an excellent opportunity to offer your time in service to St. Charles with a convenience that fits your life-style, and also brings a small bit of joy to someone who may need it. If you are a “caring” person - no matter what age - and would like to become involved in this ministry, call Marion Smith @ 330-758-9185.
Men and Women United for Life
Men and Women United for Life is an inter-parish ministry respondingh to the late Pope John Paul II's pressing appeal to "respect, protect, love and serve life, every human life ... for the building of an authentic civilization of truth and love." (Evangelium Vitae). As such, this ministry dedicates itself to upholding the sactity of life at all stages, placing special emphasis on solidarity with our most vulnerable brothers and sisters in the womb. Through prayer, education, and outreach, the group works to build a culture of life by offering formation experiences, as well as prmoting character development, healthy choices, and chastity among our young people. Membership is open to parishioners ages 14 and older. If you wish to be an apostle for the Gospel of Life, call the group's president, Judy Welsh @ 330-757-7552 or vice present, Natalie Wardle @ 330-758-0375.

A.C.T.I.O.N/Mahoning County Why Should You Invest?
A.C.T.I.O.N is a faith-based organization made up of leaders from congregations and organizations in the Mahoning Valley working in concert to improve life in our region.
* We believe the need to unite faith communities to bring about social and economic justice is the core of how we practice our own faith.
* We believe that by embracing the tools of community organizing and acting collectively on our values in the public arena, we can improve the lives of the people in the Mahoning Valley and across the region.
* We believe by developing skills and relationships, working to surface the concerns of our constituents, democratically determining issues, and acting together in the public arena; we can make our community more like the kind of place we want it to be and expect it to be, as people of faith living out our values and beliefs.
With your help, A.C.T.I.O.N continues to make a difference.

Now the gifts [God] gave were that
some would be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists,
some pastors and teachers,
to equip the saints for the work of ministry,
for building up the Body of Christ.
Ephesians 4: 11-12
We are the Body of Christ in today’s world.
It is thus both our call and our fulfillment
to permit God to act in us and through us.
